The Health Hub

The Health Hub is a safe, comfortable place for students to come if they become unwell or are injured at school.

The Redlands College Health Hub is the provider of immediate help for sick or injured students and is staffed by certified First Aid Attendants. The Health Hub operates from 8:00am to 3:15pm each day.

Is my child well enough to be at school?

If your child appears to be unwell, please do not send them to school; it is better to keep them home until they are well enough to fully participate in a normal school day without the assistance of paracetamol or ibuprofen.

What happens if my child is sick or injured while they are at school?

Students who become ill or are injured during the school day should report to a teacher, who will refer them to the Health Hub. From there, students will either return to class once treated, or a parent or listed  emergency contact person will be notified if your child needs to go home. Children who present to the Health Hub with a temperature over 37.5 degrees will be sent home. Your child should be collected as soon as possible after you have been contacted by the College, as the Health Hub has the facilities to care for students on a short term basis only. Under no circumstance is a student to contact their parent and arrange to be collected without the prior permission of a member of the College Administration.

What happens if my child needs medication while they are at school?

Students are not permitted to keep medication on their person or to administer any medication to other students. The only exceptions to this are epi-pens, diabetes medication and asthma medication.

The Health Hub may administer paracetamol once parental permission has been given.

All other medication, including migraine medication or period pain medication, should be kept at the Health Hub. This is so that if your child is unwell, staff are aware and able to administer the medication and monitor your child’s condition. This also minimises the risk of accidental overdose or adverse reaction due to the sharing of medication between students.

Parents should provide the medication in the original labelled container clearly stating the student’s name, name of medication, dose and time to be administered. It is also necessary to complete the Medication Authority form (located below). The medication and form must be handed to a Health Hub staff member. Parents will be contacted before medication is administered except in the case of short-term medications such as antibiotics.

Students with EpiPens:

Parents whose child has anaphylaxis are asked to provide the Health Hub with a current Anaphylaxis Action Plan every year. For your convenience, the ASCIA Anaphylaxis Action Plan can be downloaded here.

As the Action Plan is part of our permission and instruction procedure in case of anaphylaxis, we need to have a current Action Plan for your child, even if there are not any changes to the plan. This is required for all students at school who are at risk of anaphylaxis, and should be completed by your GP or Specialist every time your child’s EpiPen prescription is renewed.

Are there any changes to your child’s health?

Parents/Guardians are asked to inform the Health Hub of any changes to their child’s health; please email firstaid@redlands.qld.edu.au or call the Health Hub on 3286 0514. The Health Hub can provide the best care for your child when they are fully informed of all medical issues affecting your child.

New to Redlands College?

In the interests of your child’s welfare we ask that you complete The Student Medical Information Form, located below. The information provided by you in this document will be treated as strictly confidential and will only be shared with the relevant staff members when necessary.

Please print the form and return it to the Health Hub once completed. Please ensure that this form is filled out correctly and returned to the school office prior to your child starting for the school year.

The school suggests that you retain a copy of this form for your records. Please fill out this form as completely as possible as this would assist us in the event of a medical emergency.

Should you have any changes to your child’s details, please inform the school in writing.
