Years 8 – 12 BYO Laptop Requirements

From Year 8 onwards, students are required to bring their own laptop device for learning at Redlands College. To support families in this process, the College has partnered with Computer Alliance to provide laptops that meet the College’s specifications.

You can access the portal here:

Why use the portal?

  • All laptops meet the College’s requirements for Years 8–12.
  • Devices include 3 years of warranty and accidental damage cover (with extended options).
  • Repairs are completed on-site at the College IT department.
  • Families have peace of mind that devices are set up for every subject area.

Warranty extensions

  • Standard warranty and accidental damage cover is 3 years.
  • You may extend this to 4 or 5 years, ensuring coverage for your child’s entire time at the College.
  • Batteries generally last 2–3 years before performance decreases. Some families choose one device for Years 8–10, then a second for Years 11–12 and beyond.

Alternative options

  • Windows Laptops (Intel and AMD only) that are fully supported by College software. You may use the device specifications in the portal as a guide.
  • Apple MacBooks are also supported by the College but not available for purchase through the portal.
  • If families purchase a MacBook or Laptop device independently, it is encouraged to purchase a similar warranty and accidental damage cover.
  • Please note: Windows laptops with Snapdragon chipsets are incompatible with all College-provided software.

Accessories

  • Accessories on the portal are optional. Please refer to the subject booklists for specific requirements.
  • We recommend a protective laptop case or padded bag, as standard school bags are not designed to protect devices. We have seen many laptops damaged by leaking drink bottles in school bags.
