Biology on the Coast: Hastings Point Field Trip

Learning about ecology truly brings the wonders of our world to life! Our YR11 and 12s Biology students had an incredible experience at Hastings Point, starting with an engaging introduction at the North Star Environmental Centre. They then got hands-on at the foreshore rock pools—collecting data, gently passing around sea hares, playing with sea squirts, holding scuttling brittle stars, and feeling the unique texture of sea urchins. Despite getting caught in a sudden downpour, the day was filled with fun and discovery. We returned with a deeper appreciation for the amazing life at the ocean’s edge and a solid understanding of the methods scientists use to protect and sustain these ecosystems.
